What is White Gold

White gold jewellery is highly fashionable and all the rage these days yet few people know that “white gold” is a misnomer.

Gold is always yellow in colour and other metals such as silver, nickel and palladium are mixed with yellow gold to achieve the white colour. The white gold then still maintains a slight yellow tinge that is then concealed with Rhodium plating for the bright appearance that should not be confused with Platinum.

This plating wears off over time revealing the yellow tinge below and is perfectly normal.

Take your white gold jewellery to a reputable manufacturing jeweller to have it polished and rhodium plated again and your jewellery will be as white as new!
