Our Great Breakthrough
Once I began using calibrated small diamonds, I started to understand how to get the quality sparkle and end result I had been trying to achieve for such a long time. And that’s when I knew I HAD to make a change… I had to understand why the imported rings sparkle more. One day while talking to an overseas supplier, I discovered a huge secret. Something that would change the quality of our own manufactured rings tremendously. Implementing this secret was not an incremental change in quality – it was a giant leap forward. I discovered the difference between normal small diamonds (that everybody in the jewellery trade is using) and calibrated small diamonds.
These are diamonds that were sorted over and over (up to 27 times) to calibrate for colour, clarity, millimetre size (accurate to the thickness of paper) and more importantly calibrated for symmetry in cut. These type of small diamonds are almost impossible to source here in South Africa and very few jewellers even know how to tell the difference. As a gemmologist, it was easy for me to learn the difference. Once I discovered this, our end result just outshined any ring that was not manufactured and set this way.
The reason I was failing was because the small diamonds that are supplied to most jewellers (like myself) are simply not good enough. Most jewellery manufactures were just setting the cheaper small diamonds and not aware of why their items do not have that outstanding sparkle. No wonder I was struggling.
Once I began using calibrated small diamonds, I started to understand how to get the quality sparkle and end result I was had been trying to achieve for such a long time. I used what I discovered to be able to make a ring “pop”.
